Wahoo!

So- Parent Teacher Conferences are over and I AM SOOOOO GLAD! Don't get me wrong- I LOVE talking to the parents-seriously- I honestly have the BEST kids and parents in the world. But after my 20th conference in a row yesterday, I couldn't even remember what I was saying... 15 conferences later my smile, throat, and ears ached so bad I just wanted to go home and fall asleep- and it was only 8 o'clock. I did 35ish conferences for Kindergartners all in one day. Luckily, I only had like 10 more today and I was done a little after 12 o'clock. It was nice to have some time to prep for school next week and then I got to come home early! WAHHHHOOOO! I was out and about at 2:00 in the afternoon! Free to do anything I wanted! It's nice to have days like that every once in awhile- everyone needs a break even if they do love their jobs/the people they work with.

In my case, I am especially thankful for the kids in my class-because they are THE reason I love my job. I am SOOO lucky to get to teach 5/6 year olds. They are so smart and sweet and I just love them! Seriously. Sometimes when I tell people I teach Kindergarten they're like, "ohhhh! Snack time and nap time and story time! How FUN!!! That would be such an easy job."
I even had a mom say that to me once. It had been a crazy day and all of my kids had been really hyper- and after we finally got the majority of my class down the hall to another little 20ish minute class- the 10 of them who weren't in the class got to go home. So as that mom watched those 10 kids leave out the door she said, "Your job is so easy! ONLY this many kids to watch and play with all day and they leave at noon! How nice!". I smiled and thanked her, turned around to go get ready for my next group of kids and seriously almost started to cry. :)

If you want to know how stressful it can be sometimes teaching Kindergarten imagine having a birthday party for 24 kids at a time, 5 days of the week, at your house that you're also trying to keep clean and germ free (so they all don't get sick)- and teaching them something (well, actually many things) all at the same time. It is fun. But it is not easy.

Now... if you want to know how amazing it is to teach Kindergarten: think of how good it makes you feel to see one child learn something new or to know that one kid loves and depends on you for something- and then multiply that by 47 and you've got my job. It really is incredible. I love helping these kids learn- and learning from them. They are so kind to each other and so full of love and it makes my life better just being around them. I know that there is not a better job in the world- even though there are days that I wake up early in the morning- or come home later at night and forget that- I am so thankful to be a teacher- and I am so thankful for my "kids".

Oh Tiff... that was sweet. I think you are an amzing person and teacher. It is such hard work and I admire that you have done it so well and so long. It doesn't matter what people think in the end... it's all the kids you touched and helped. They are the ones that matter and you will always be remembered.

Oh my gosh. you're a teacher!! sometimes i forget! that is so freakin amazing!!! what a job! Yes, I can understand how hard it would be. I subbed kindergarten, 1st and 2nd, 4th and 5th grade! It's waaaaaaay hard. I just did it for one day and wanted to shoot myself. Trying to control that many kids at one time is TOUGH & almost impossible. It takes a VERY , VERY sweet patient amazing person to do that! and that's the truth! you and your little class are soooo cute!

That is an awesome post. :) I bet you are the best teacher ever. Caden starts kindergarten this next fall and I totally wish you could be his teacher. *sigh* but we don't live by you. Your kids are so lucky to have you as a teacher.

I love this post. Being a kindergarten teacher, too, I could really relate to what you were saying! I am sure that you are such a great teacher. I wish I could come in and watch you teach! I noticed that you have a cowboy kid in your class! I had a little cowboy in my class last year and I LOVED him. So, now I can admit that he was my favorite, right? He'd always fold his arms and pout, "Teacher, I cain't draw an L, it's too hard" Then I'd have to give him the pep talk about how he rides sheep and so he is tough enough to draw an L! lol I totally know how hard the little moments get but I am so glad that you are having so much fun! You look beautiful in your class pictures, by the way. Keep posting about your kids every now and then, I love it!

Oh and a huge congratulations to be done with Parent Teacher Conferences! Yes, I'd lose my voice too when I was done. Other teachers just don't understand... Kindergarten teachers have TWICE as many conferences to do because they have two sets of kids! I hope the parents were nice to you! You know there are those parents that think their kid should just skip right to 4th grade. I am sure they had nothing to complain about you though!
